October Featured Makeup Artist Ana Soto
October is here and that means we can finally start obsessing over all things fall related. Fall makeup trends are always changing and sometimes the best way to quickly learn how to execute a new look is through YouTube. The magic of YouTube allows for us to see such a variety of makeup tutorials and looks that it’s insanely easy keep up with the trend. Plus if you ever needed guidance or informal training on anything, it’s only one click away. One of our students, who happens to be our October Feature Makeup Artist, is one of the many talented aspiring makeup artists you can find on social media.
Ana Soto, an almost 18 year old from Albuquerque, New Mexico has a passion for makeup. She recently graduated high school and like so many of the rest of us, had no idea what to do with her life. She was very interested in beauty from a young age but unfortunately, like so many interested in this industry, there wasn’t a whole lot of info or easy ways for her to get started. She tried looking for schools in her area but there weren’t many cosmetology schools. The ones that were in her area focused mainly on hair and nails which she did not have an interest in. While still contemplating what to do as a new graduate, Ana had a lot of free time which she filled by watching YouTube videos. She was inspired by all the makeup tutorials she watched and decided she should make her own YouTube channel. This is what really launched her into the makeup world. Now, Ana absolutely loves filming makeup tutorials and vlogs. She posts these to her channel as well as to Instagram. She cites Insta as a great source of inspiration for many different looks that she attempts.
My suggestion to you, lover of makeup and clear social media activist (don’t deny this cause you’re clearly reading this blog post) is that you use these wonderful resources we have available to us to better yourself. You can get inspiration, practice, tips, and so much knowledge from the internet that you will immediately feel more prepared to enroll in an academy or try to do more professional work. What is as equally important is creating your own account/page that displays your best work. One of the major ways people living in 2016 hear about things is through social media. If you think about posting your talents to social media isn’t something you want to waste your time with, just think about how many good things can come from this. 1) it gets your name out there for the beauty industry to see, 2) it works as a portfolio so anyone interested can see all your best work immediately, 3) it’s an easy form of communication, and 4) it’s fun and will help you practice your skills and form.
We are so proud that Ana is doing great work as a student and with her social media platforms so far. We hope to see her one day live out her dream of owning her own makeup line. Check out her links below.
